Hi friends! Welcome back for another mini project!

I found a mini-ironing board at the thrift shop that was the perfect size for my sewing/craft room. The cover was pretty thin and stained, but I figured I could DIY a new cover. Check out the new cover and the way I made it below.

I took off the old cover and removed the string that goes inside the casing. I saved the padding that came with the other to re-use. I made small cuts around the cover to help it lay flat. This helps to get a better measurement and as close to the original as possible. I made the replacement one a tad bigger than the original. I traced around the original fabric about a 1/2 in from the original piece. If you wanted to keep yours the same size, you would just trace right around the edge of the original. I then cut the fabric on the traced line.

Here is the cut piece of material, and yes; that is my cool mini Cousin It that keeps me company! I used a piece of bias binding long enough to go around the perimeter of the cover to create a casing. I left a small 1in. gap at the base of the cover to insert my string and tie here. I sewed around the inside edge to create & secure the casing.

I cut a piece of string long enough to go around the perimeter of the cover and about 8 inches extra to have a tale to tie at the base. I attached a safety pin to the end of the string and then inserted it into one side of the opening and threaded it thru the casing to the other side like in the photo.

I aligned the batting that was already there from the previous cover and added my new cover on top. I smoothed out the top cover and cinched the string together and tied it off. And here we are! A new cover for this new to me ironing board.

It will be great to have in my sewing room now, so I don’t have to run back and forth to my big ironing board. I love how it turned out and it was very inexpensive as I already had the materials on hand. I love finding things that I can make new again and give use to.
